My name is Dalia wissa I am 22 years old who came from Egypt at a very young age and left school at also a young age, grew up in Bayonne with my family barely knew English I had my cousin who was helping out me with classes and especially reading books because we know the definition of literate is someone who can read and write.
when I moved to the USA, that's when I had my cousin help me out with my readings and that is exactly who inspired me, He is the one who inspired me and worked really hard with me for a year plus I work on my self in school, he was always my supportive person all the time. I wouldn't have it done through the school year without him and also a class called ESL who provides the English language to help out with children who do not speak English. The ESL program was encouraging everyone with all the literate.
I believe I was about 10 years old when I started to read my first book and writing, that's when I started my first experiences of reading and it was my first time. It felt really good knowing how to read and how to write catching up with the rest of my classmate, it was so difficult trying to communicate with others while I did not know English and that's why it took me time to make friends. As I said earlier my role model is my cousin who stood by my side and taught me all the time.
As of today, I am working with children and I need to use it with them too and that's why I love to read with my children in the class.
